Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Movie Review

When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was first announced, it’s fair to say that there was some trepidation among fans about whether it could live up to the greatness of the original. Fortunately, though, it’s safe to say that director James Gunn didn’t disappoint with this latest chapter in the Guardians franchise. We’ll take you through everything from the story and acting to special effects, so continue reading our review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 below!

The main characters

The main character, Peter Quill, is played by Chris Pratt and also goes by Star-Lord in his work as a member of Guardians of the Galaxy. Gamora is an adopted daughter of her evil father but quickly joins forces with Quill after she meets him and realizes he's not what she thought he was. Drax plays a very unique role for Guardians because he doesn't know about emotions and mainly just cares about fighting Thanos, who killed his family and destroyed his planet when he was younger. Groot is another character that doesn't talk a lot but does have a very soothing voice that keeps everyone calm during battle and can also heal wounds such as broken bones if you're injured badly in battle.

The plot

Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse through outer space, dealing with all things intergalactic—from alien invasions to inner-demon battles, not to mention Star-Lord's paternal issues and Gamora and Nebula's complicated relationship with their father Thanos. This sequel is directed by James Gunn, written by Gunn and actor/screenwriter Chris McCoy, and features an ensemble cast featuring Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon) and Michael Rooker (Yondu). The best lines from the movie

You're a crazy old man! I loved it. — Drax That was so metal. — Gamora Quill is my name. Star-Lord is who I am, and that's what I'm called. — Peter Quill/Star-Lord Everybody dies in your stories? That's awesome! — Rocket Raccoon We did it! We saved the galaxy again! Awesome job, guys! Let's go celebrate with some Xandarian moonshine. — Drax

What are your thoughts?

Overall, I was incredibly impressed with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! The action scenes and character dynamics in Guardians are always entertaining, but now that all (or most) of these characters know who they are and what their purpose is, it really feels like we’re building towards something greater with them. It didn’t have as much heart as Vol 1., but humor-wise, I would say that it was more on par with Thor Ragnarok. In particular, Baby Groot became my favorite character in a movie for a long time; he and Rocket steal nearly every scene that they are in together! Overall Grade: A+ (PG-13)

The soundtrack

I love listening to soundtracks when watching movies and sometimes even when not. Soundtracks capture a scene and tell a story, adding an extra layer to every movie-watching experience. Since Guardians of the Galaxy is such a classic, I was excited to listen to its equally classic soundtrack as I watched Vol. 2 on opening night. The music was awesome—very retro—and had me bobbing my head while I sat in my comfy seat (that provided free refills) with my giant tub of popcorn, watching that epic group save not only our planet but other planets as well! It was a fun evening filled with lots of good music and family entertainment that is sure to take your mind off all those stressors you have in your life for just two hours!

Final words about this movie

The second installment was amazing and I think that everyone should see it! I can't wait to see what they do next and cannot recommend these movies enough! Go out, get some popcorn, find your seat and enjoy every moment because that is exactly what I did with my friends! Next time you're looking for a movie to watch, consider something funny or just have a good time at the movies, look no further than Guardians of The Galaxy! :) Have fun watching it!
